The best ways to deal with butt sweat in the summer

By Thigh Society

Why does my butt sweat so much?

Butt sweat. Swamp ass. Sweaty bum. There are plenty of terms for one thing we all deal with in the hot summer heat: soggy butts and thighs from sweating. It’s totally normal and nothing to be embarrassed about. (Trust us—we’ve all gotten up from our chairs and noticed a wet bum-shaped mark left behind.) But while it’s nothing to feel ashamed about, it’s not exactly comfortable, especially when it causes extra friction between our legs leading to painful inner-thigh chafing.

Sweating helps our bodies regulate our internal temperatures when we’re overheating. As the water evaporates, our skin cools down. Cool, right? It’s a good thing! All you need are a few tricks up your sleeve to keep yourself comfortably enjoying the sunshine all summer long. Here, our top tips for dealing with sweaty butts and thighs.

1. Choose the right underwear

While there’s no such thing as sweat-proof underwear, finding the right underwear for you requires just a little bit of research and knowledge of your own body. The most important factor when choosing your next pair is material. Although it’s typically believed that cotton is the healthiest material for your netherregions, it actually absorbs and holds on to sweat, staying damp longer. Opt for synthetic or blended materials, like polyester, nylon, bamboo rayon or MicroModal, which will wick sweat and help keep your body cool.

2. Wear sweat-wicking shorts

Once you have your perfect undies chosen, another great addition to the anti-sweat arsenal is a pair of sweat-wicking shorts. Not only will these help wick the sweat from your booty and thighs, they’ll also protect your inner thighs from chafing, provide extra coverage on windy days, and even help regular and reduce your body temperature. Our Cooling Short can be worn in place of underwear, and is made out of our proprietary fabric blend of Sensil Breeze Nylon, spandex and a tiny bit of cotton for comfort. They’re ultra-stretchy and move with your body (not against it!), and can even lower body temp by up to 1 degree.

3. Wear weather-appropriate clothing

Everyone has different preferences when it comes to dressing for warm weather, but choosing the right styles and fabrics can make or break your day when it comes to keeping cool. Opting for flowy, breathable, unrestricted garments can help keep your body cooler and more comfortable when you sweat. If you want to wear pants, swap out your skinny jeans for a pair of loose trousers made out of linen, a great summertime fabric that helps your legs stay cool. Long story short, leave your leather pants at home this time.

4. Change your clothing often

We know it’s not always possible or convenient to bring a change of clothing, but if you find you sweat a lot, packing a spare pair of underwear and anti-chafing shorts can be the midday save you need. Popping into the washroom for a quick change is an easy way to freshen up and stay cool during an outing.

Remember: butt and thigh sweat is a completely normal phenomenon that everyone deals with. Being familiar with your body and its needs—and being prepared for the day by packing an extra pair of underwear and our Cooling Short—is one of the best ways to practice self-care. And that’s what we’re all about.
